FAQs

I am interested in entering the Effie UK Awards. How do I enter?
The first step to entering the 2017 Effie Awards UK competition is to review all entry materials thoroughly. Entry Materials are now available here . Once you’ve thoroughly reviewed the material, start your submission in the Online Entry System (please note the Online Entry System will be available from the end of October 2016).

How do we submit the final entry?
All entries must be submitted online. No entries will be accepted in any other format.

How much does it cost to enter?
Entry fees vary dependent on when an entry is submitted, as follows:

  • Early deadline: £600.00 plus VAT
  • On-time deadline: £1,000.00 plus VAT
  • Extended deadline: £1,600.00 plus VAT
  • NEW! Last chance extension: £1,700 plus VAT

What is the deadline for entry submissions?
There are three submission deadlines as follows:

  • *Early deadline: for entries submitted by 18th November 2016
  • On-time deadline: for entries submitted by 21st December 2016
  • Extended deadline: for entries submitted by 13th January 2017
  • NEW! Last chance extension: for entries submitted by 20th January 2017

*Exception: The Olympics & Paralympics category only has a different Early submission deadline of 25th November 2016. On-time, extended & last chance deadlines are same across all categories, including Olympics & Paralympics category.

** All deadlines run until 23:59 hours on the dates listed

I want to make sure my entry is completed correctly. Any suggestions?
We recommend that you review the 2017 entry materials available here and past winning work in the Case Database.

When is an entry considered complete? Will I receive a confirmation of submission?
All entrants are to submit their entries using the Online Entry System. A submission is not considered complete until all information (including payment) has been submitted online and received by the Effie UK office. All Effie UK entry materials and payment must be submitted by 20th January 2017. Once all the entry questions are complete, payment can be made by providing your credit card details over the phone or by a banking wire transfer (instructions are listed on the invoice).

Once your entry has been completed and submitted in the Online Entry System, you will receive a confirmation via email (sent to the main entrant contact). If you are paying by wire transfer, Effie UK must receive payment no later than 20th January 2017.

Which category should I enter my case in?
Review category definitions here and past winners in the Case Study Database. If you are unsure if your case falls under the definition of a certain category, or you aren’t sure which category it should be entered in, please write a brief synopsis of the case and the questions you have and email them to Mateja Simic at mateja.simic@iaaglobal.org.

Each entry should be customised to speak to the specifics of each entered category whenever possible. Judges are often frustrated when an entry clearly wasn’t tailored for the category they are reviewing.

Exception: New Product/Service Introductions are not allowed to enter into their Product/Service Categories. They can enter only into the New Product/Service category and, if applicable, additional Speciality Categories.

The Effie UK Awards reserves the right to re-categorise entries, split/redefine categories and/or refuse entry any at any time.

Can I enter one case into multiple categories?

Yes. You may enter an effort into one Product/Service category and multiple speciality categories. You will need to complete a separate entry form, submit a separate set of creative samples and pay the entry fee for each additional category.

The Effie Awards UK reserves the right to re-categorise entries, split/redefine categories and/or refuse entry any at any time.

What is the maximum submission length i.e. word count, number of pages etc?
Your entry cannot exceed ten (10) pages. Please also note that individual questions have specific word limits, which are noted in the online entry system and the Entry Form Guidelines.

Is there a required structure for the written entry?
The structure of the written entry is already formulated in the online entry process.

Can I enter an initiative that started running before the eligibility start date?
Your case can have been introduced earlier but must have run during the qualifying time period and have data relative to that time. (Run between 1st October 2015 and 30th September 2016 for all categories except the Olympics & Paralympics categort which has a separate eligibility criteria).

Judges will be looking at the results within the eligibility time period. Data prior to that time period should be used only to set the scene. No results after 30th September 2016* can be submitted for the 2016 Effie UK competition.

*Exception: The Olympics & Paralympics category follows a separate eligibility time period of: 1st June 2016 – 31st October 2016. Entries in this category cannot include results after 31st October 2016. Additionally, the Olympics & Paralympics category only has a different Early submission deadline of 25th November 2016. On-time, final & last chance extension deadlines are same across all categories.

Are there any important eligibility factors we should be aware of?
The Effie UK Awards Competition is open to ALL agencies and advertisers, regardless of size or location. To enter the 2017 Effie Awards, your must have: run in the UK between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016 (with the exception for Olympics & Paralympics category).  Effie UK has strict eligibility rules. For information on these rules, please click here.

Who can enter?
Any companies (e.g. agency, client, media company) who produced a campaign that ran in the UK during the eligibility time period can enter. Regardless of which company takes the role of main entrant, it is important that the entering company has the permission to submit the case & properly credits all companies who contributed to the case.

I worked with another agency on my entry. How do the credits work?
You are required to credit all creative and strategic partners who contributed to the marketing communications effort. Space has been provided in the online entry area to credit eight companies. You must credit the client and at least one lead agency. You may credit a maximum of two agencies as lead agencies. The second lead agency will be regarded as co-lead agencies on the work.

We request that all entrants communicate with their own corporate/communications office and the offices of their credited partner companies and/or PR departments to ensure all client and agency company names are credited correctly. This information should be communicated to contributing companies as well. Review effieindex.com to see how your company office has been listed in recent years.

If your case becomes a 2017 Effie UK finalist or winner, the credits submitted will be used to tally the 2018 Effie Effectiveness Index results. Since different point values are given to lead and contributing companies, it is critical that all brands and companies are properly credited at time of entry. See the entry rules for complete information on credits.

What is the confidentiality policy for the written entries?
The full Effie UK confidentiality policy is available on the confidentiality page & in the online entry system.

Does anything need to be signed or approved?
Before you begin to enter the case information, the system will require you to certify that you have approval from your client to enter the competition and that all content is true and accurate.

When is the first round judging?
The first round judging will begin in February 2017.

When is the final round judging?
The final round judging will take place in March 2017.

I am interested in becoming a judge. How does that work?
Participating as a judge is one of the clearest ways to learn the value of the award. Judges value the opportunity because it provides a chance to understand how success works outside their own specific product / service category (sometimes yielding good ideas to incorporate in their own category) and also provides excellent networking.

The needs of the Effie Judge Selection Committee change on a rolling basis, in order to create well-rounded juries that represent both client and agency expertise across all disciplines. For this reason, we cannot guarantee the acceptance of all judging applicants/nominees. However, completing the application ensures the suggested names are included on Effie’s list for consideration. Effie actively encourages participation across the full spectrum of the industry.

To nominate a judge, email Mateja Simic with full contact information and a brief bio. To apply to be a judge, please sign up here.

When are the finalists announced?
The finalists will be announced during March 2017.

When are the winners announced?
The winners will be announced at the 2017 Effie UK Awards Ceremony, on 17th May 2017.

When will I find out if my case is a winner?
Winners will be announced during the 2017 Effie UK Awards Ceremony on 17th May 2017 in London. The official press announcement will be made the following day.

Who should I contact if I have any questions?
